What is the opposite of "Being Agile"?

Disclaimer:

There are great articles on the importance of "Being Agile" vs. just "Doing Agile", so this blog post will not attempt to repeat that information.

In any Agile endeavour, it can be tempting to fall back into old habits especially when the going gets tough. Having things like the Agile manifesto and the Scrum values are great artifacts to refer back to so we can catch ourselves. However, there are times where we need to look at the same information with a different lens.

But what if we looked at what it's like to NOT "Be Agile"?

That may help to detect some anti-patterns that may otherwise go unnoticed.

Here are some things to look out for:

-Advising instead of coaching

-Centralizing decisions

-Avoiding difficult conversations

-Being silent

-Working in silos

-Ignoring the Agile values & principles

-Stop learning

-Adopting a fixed mindset

-Refraining from risk taking

-Delaying DevOps

-Focusing on efficiency over effectiveness

-Lacking leadership

-Accepting a toxic culture
